A Toast to Dave

In the spirit of Marcus Aurelius (I apologize in advance for the shady link), I've taken to composing maxims of my own on life. In that vein, then, here goes my attempt at bite-sized reflections, starting with a single thought that I owe to Poolman (with a capital "P")Dave Pulliam and our conversation over the weekend.

The penny you owe the past is a pound to pay the future.

Take a nickel from your father, give a dollar to your son.

Father gave the needle, but you'll provide the suture,

To stitch on son the badge, that you so dearly won.

Or you could just take either of the first two lines to get the true sentiments I was trying to convey. Unfortunately, I thought to make a rhyming ditty out of it after I read the first two lines out loud. Ah well, you be the judge. Hopefully it gets the point across.
