"All the exaggerations are right, if they exaggerate the right thing."
This passage comes from his essay "On Gargoyles," which I just finished. Chesterton is criticizing Realism, and his metaphor seems to work well enough. But I must say, my mind was partially preoccupied by the fact that our Friday morning softball team, which is preparing to take on another foe on the morrow, proudly bears the name of Gargoyle as our mascot. Given our team's propensity for bombastic proclamations of our talents and the iminent demolition of our foes, this quote seems an endorsement of our style.
