A Final Class Thought

We had our last Latin class yesterday. Prof. Richter will be in some conference tomorrow, and his absence precludes class from occurring. On any other occasion, I'd be quite happy. But since this makes yesterday our last class, I was sad then, and am now.

If I can find some solace, it is in the discussion we had of this goddess in class, one of the cathonic deities.

Hecate, Hekate (Hekátē), or Hekat was originally a goddess of the wilderness and childbirth originating from Thrace, or among the Carians of Anatolia [1]. Popular cults venerating her as a mother goddess integrated her persona into Greek culture as 'Εκατη. In Ptolemaic Alexandria she ultimately achieved her connotations as a goddess of sorcery and her role as the 'Queen of Ghosts', in which guise she was transmitted to post-Renaissance culture.
