Guest Lectures

The first speaker just took the stand. I've already managed to forget his name, but he's an executive director of CAIR -- ooooooh.

Some notes as he speaks:

First bad joke: "I have appeared on Al-Jazeera...usually that's a recipe for someone to call the FBI and send me to Guantanamo."

According to TMC (The Man from CAIR), there are hatemakers and peacemakers. The better way to live is to not hate.

"Anyone who knows or knew Mohammed would be as upset as we are." -- Um, upset enough to riot? That's quite a claim.

Ah, reacting violently is against the rule of Islam.

"I do not know of a single imam who called for violence. Imams called for protests." -- Really? Well, we know of many imams who have called for violence in many other circumstances (see the profile in the NY Times of Friday afternoon violence in Iraq). Does it really seem likely that no imams were calling for violence. The sweeping statements seem unnecessary...
