An interesting tidbit from today's PoliticalJournal:

Republicans may be hard-pressed in many states this fall, but in Louisiana they are sitting pretty. Last week, Francis Heitmeier, the Democratic candidate for secretary of state, dropped out of the November election after a disappointing primary showing last month that saw Republicans take two-thirds of the vote in the state's open primary system (in which all candidates appear on one ballot). "We're a casualty of the storm [Katrina]," Mr. Heitmeier said, explaining that massive displacement of voters by the hurricane made it unlikely he could defeat Republican Jay Dardenne.
A couple things are going on here. A) I'm quoting from PoliticalJournal, which you have to pay for, so I guess it's not unlikely that WSJ lawyers will soon "have me by the noogies," as a professor of mine might say. B) Jay Dardenne is not unknown to me. As a matter of fact, I have actually met the esteemed politician. His son was a sometime cohort of mine during my tenure with the Trojans, and indeed, it is his form and visage that grace the photo above. Yes, you know which one.
